In the early hours of Tuesday morning, there was an increased police presence outside the Lindo Wing. A team of police officers and a sniffer dog were spotted which fuelled speculation that Kate may have gone into labor.

Also spotted were protection officers entering the side door of the Lindo Wing and a photographer known to be close to Kate's PA Natasha Archer turned up.

This turned out to just be a 'dry run' where officers and security staff often run through their roles and responsibilities a number of times before the event, to make sure everyone knows what they have to do.

The fans, who are camped out across the road from the Lindo Wing, received a knock on their tent and someone told them that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had sent two boxes of croissants and cakes wrapped with a pink ribbon and 10 hot drinks.

The pastries were bought from a local store, but delivered by Kensington Palace staff. The Palace confirmed William and Kate saw the news reports about those camping out and wanted them to know 'they were thinking of them'

Could the pink ribbon be a clue?
