Kate stepped out of her car to chants of "We want Kate". She was greeted by a line-up of dignitaries including MP Austin Mitchell and his wife Linda.
During the visit to Peaks Lane Fire Station, Kate met young people enrolled on a scheme run by The Prince's Trust to help unemployed youngsters build up their confidence and develop their job-finding skills.

Her final engagement of the day was to officially open Havelock Academy, established in 2007 by The David Ross Foundation, which serves more than 1,000 pupils aged between 11 and 18 in one of the most deprived areas in the country.
Kate looked radiant in her previously worn (on a visit to Liverpool last February) chestnut-brown 'Celeste' coat (£369) by Hobbs. The coat finishes just below the knee and is adorned with leather stud fastening cuff straps and a matching belt at the waist.
Under her Hobbs coat, she wore a red 'Cezanne' paintbox dress (£48 and sold out) by Great Plains.

Update 3/9/2012
There may be a possible ID for Kate's ring on her right hand (thanks to a follower on 'My Small Obsessions'). If it is not exactly the same, it's very close. It was listed on Ebay as a victorian 15ct rose gold garnet and pearl ring.
Additional details from the Ebay listing:
'A fine offering of a glossy rose gold fully hallmarked Victorian ring set with three faceted
garnets and two seed pearls, with some subtle detailing to the shoulders.
