The announcement was made today! Prince George will be Christened on October 23, 2013 at Chapel Royal in St James's Palace.
The christening is the royal family’s first chance to officially celebrate the arrival of George - who is third in line to the throne.

This is another break in tradition for the royal couple. It will be an intimate ceremony with only their closest family and friends in attendance. However, it will retain a sense of occasion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, conducting the ceremony.

There is no traditional chapel for royal baby christenings. Prince William was christened in the music room at Buckingham Palace, while Prince Harry had his service at Windsor Castle.

The Chapel Royal holds special significance for William and Kate. In 1997, the body of Diana the Princess of Wales lay before the altar so her family and friends could pay their respects in private, before her formal funeral in Westminster Abbey. And in April 2011, Kate chose the chapel to be formally confirmed into the Church of England before her marriage to Prince William.

The last official royal christening to take place at St James’s Palace was that of Princess Beatrice in December 1988.
