Where will Kate give birth?

The palace has confirmed that Kate will give birth to her second child at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, west London. This is the same place where she and William joyfully welcomed Prince George into their lives almost two years ago. Prince William and Prince Harry were also born in the wing.

The Duchess has been staying at her new country home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, but plans to return to their London home Kensington Palace.

If she happens to go into labor before her return to London, contingency plans have been put in place at other hospitals – Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge and the Royal Berkshire, which is close to Kate’s parents.

The maternity unit in the Lindo Wing consists of 16 rooms: five for labor and 11 for postnatal care. Although the rooms clearly have the requirements of any modern hospital, the wing in general has the facilities of a top-tier hotel.

The food, all freshly prepared on-site, can cover any special dietary, cultural or religious requirements (including vegetarian, kosher and halal meals). All inpatients have a separate breakfast, lunch and supper menu. Also offered is a light-bite menu consisting of soups, omelets, jacket potatoes, salads, sandwiches and baguettes. A list of wines and champagne is readily available.

A top medical team has been put in place to welcome William and Kate's second child into the world. The royal doctors heading up the elite squad include Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston. They are very familiar to the royal couple as they were present for Prince George's birth almost two years ago.
The rest of the team may include neonatologist Sunit Godambe, an anesthetist and a team of midwives. Last time, Kate reportedly had a team of four midwives helping her, led by Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent, professor of midwifery at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

On a side note, Marcus Setchell, who led the team last time, won't be there. He retired shortly after the birth of Prince George.

In the run-up to Prince George's birth, there were ladders in position across the road from the hospital doors for at least three weeks before Kate welcomed Prince George on July 22, 2013. This time around, the press and public are banned from the street outside UNTIL the Duchess has been admitted to the hospital.

When and how will the birth of Baby Cambridge #2 be announced?

Once the newest royal is born, a written announcement will be posted by a palace footman upon an easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. The easel is the same one used to announce Prince George's arrival on July 22, 2013, as well as Prince William's decades earlier in 1982.

The announcement will include all the details of the birth, including the baby's weight and exact time of arrival.

If Kate goes into labor or delivers after 10pm, the news will not be released until 8am the following morning.

Maria Borrallo, was brought on board last year as the full-time nanny to help with Prince George. The Cambridge's seem happy with the arrangement and have no plans to hire a second nanny.

The Cambridge's plan to return to Kensington Palace to recuperate (anywhere from two days to a week) before travelling to Norfolk to set up home at Anmer Hall. An aide said: ‘Her focus will be on her family over the summer.’

Prince William plans to take two weeks of paternity leave from his job as an air ambulance pilot following the birth of his second child and it's been reported that Kate will take a longer maternity leave than she did with Prince George before returning to her public engagements.
